Metal cans are a common packaging material in the food industry for soups, sauces, meat, pet food and seafood. During the final stages of the canning process, as the product is in the metal can, X-ray is the only viable method of contamination detection to be used.
Traditional X-ray systems suffer from blind spots at the base and side walls of the can, compromising product safety and quality.
SAFELINE’s innovative multi-beam technology addresses this problem and offers higher probability of detection in metal cans.

Choosing the correct system!Traditional vertical beam systems
On a traditional vertical system the beam passes through the most dense areas of the can – top, base and sidewalls. These sections appear as a dark elongated edge around as well as on-top of the product, hence greatly reducing sensitivity and probability of detection in these areas. Therefore the greatest weakness of a vertical system is the detection of contaminants next to the sidewalls in a metal can.
SAFELINE’s horizontal multi beam technology
At SAFELINE we are continually developing innovative solutions to solve inspection problems. Our horizontal multi beam system inspects through the less dense cross section area of the metal can, therefore sensitivity and probability of detection is greatly increased in the base and sidewalls. Due to the angle of the beams, contaminants are pulled away from the sidewalls and made visible in at least one of the X-ray images - again improved detection.

SAFELINE’s X-ray Inspection Systems offer:•Detection and elimination of metal, stone, bone, glass and high density plastic contaminants to prevent product recalls
• Superior sensitivity, special configurations to eliminate blind spots, to protect your brand
• Increase productivity – false reject rates are minimised due to adaptive technology
